Regional Workshop on Pedagogy in Short Course Development for Climate Change and Agri-Food Systems

21–25 July 2025 | Protea Hotel, Entebbe, Uganda
The Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM) is organizing a five-day regional training workshop from 21st to 25th July 2025 at Protea Hotel in Entebbe, Uganda, under the theme: “Pedagogy in Short Course Development for Climate Change and Agri-Food Systems.”
The workshop aims to build the capacity of university faculty and staff in designing and delivering flexible, high-impact short courses that address Africa’s pressing climate and agri-food system challenges. The training focuses on practical instructional design, adult learning principles, inclusive pedagogy, and blended delivery approaches.
Participants include representatives from South Sudanese institutions—University of Juba and Dr. John Garang Memorial University of Science and Technology—alongside staff from four leading Africa Centres of Excellence:
- Africa Centre of Excellence in Agricultural Policy (ACE-APA) at Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR), Malawi
- Centre of Excellence in Transformative Agriculture Commercialization and Entrepreneurship (TACE) at LUANAR, Malawi
- Centre for Resilient Agri-Food Systems (CRAFS) at University of Malawi
- Aquaculture and Fisheries Centre of Excellence (AquaFish) at LUANAR, Malawi
Facilitated by Prof. Betty Ezati of Makerere University, the workshop uses a participatory and experiential approach. Participants will develop draft short course modules throughout the week, applying learned principles in real-time. Sessions will address needs assessment, learning outcomes, content design, assessment planning, and inclusive delivery strategies.
This initiative is part of RUFORUM’s broader agenda to strengthen human capital development and innovation-driven training in African higher education. It will also foster regional collaboration and establish a community of practice for short course development across institutions and countries.
