Requesting Support for forage based Dairying project being promoted through a new outreach model by Baraka Agricultural College and partner co-operatives.The proposed model strengthens co-operative led innovation support, integrating research, extension services, and market driven solutions within dairy cooperatives to enhance farmer learning, productivity, and sustainability. At its core is the Dairy Innovation Support Unit at the institution, serving as the hub for research translation, testing, and dissemination of new technologies. By embedding this within cooperatives, the model ensures that innovations reach farmers through trusted networks, reinforcing collective action and local decision-making.
The model represents an evolution from previous extension approaches, leveraging cooperative structures, research partnerships and digital tools to create a scalable, adaptable and farmer-cantered innovation system. It aligns with global best practices by combining participatory learning, institutional support and market orientation to drive sustained growth in Kenya’s dairy sector
