The Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM) in partnership with The Mastercard Foundation, Gulu University and Egerton University implemented an eight-year program aimed at transforming African agricultural universities and their graduates to better respond to developmental challenges through enhanced application of science, technology, business and innovation for rural agricultural transformation. This eight-year program (2016-2024), known as TAGDev 1.0 (Transforming African Agricultural Universities to meaningfully contribute to Africa’s growth and development, phase 1.0) has to date, supported 567 graduates from economically disadvantaged as well as post-conflict and conflict-affected countries in Africa.

More than half of TAGDev alumni’s have entered the agricultural sector by launching innovative enterprises that not only contribute to the economy but also provide a pathway to dignified and fulfilling careers. These alumni have leveraged their knowledge, skills, and creativity to cultivate sustainable practices that strategically mitigate risk while developing unique products and services tailored to meet consumer needs.

To spotlight these economic contributions, RUFORUM collaborated with the Mastercard Foundation to profile its alumni on their entrepreneurial endeavours. These inspiring entrepreneurs are not only building businesses; they’re driving positive economic, social and environmental change!
